Joe Jonas Update

If you haven't read the "Joe Jonas and Backwards Day post" - read that first!!!

After hearing Alysa and her Joe Jonas dilemma, Brian came up with a great joke! He came home from work that day and told Alysa that he had a service call to the radio station that day (Brian owns his own plumbing business - call us if you need a plumber work is getting scarce) and that while he was there, he saw Joe Jonas. Alysa nearly died. It was really hard for him to tell her that he was just kidding because she was so excited!!!

Q & A

What interest, passion or desire are you most afraid of admitting to yourself and others?

I don't think that I am really afraid of admitting anything to anyone - even myself. My passion/desire is to live a happy life, to have a happy marriage and to have happy children. This is an ongoing goal, that I will work on everyday until I die - but so far so good. I want to be myself and to not care what others think. I feel like I am there - it was hard to get there, but well worth it.

What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

The same things I am doing now. Living a happy life. I could choose something that others would consider great (ie: a successful business woman, president, etc.) but I look at all that I would have to give up to get there, like time with my family, and it makes it not worth it to me. I just want to be financially comfortable and happy. I've got that already.

What do you love about yourself?

I love that I am silly and quirky. I love that I am not high - maintenance and that I can find joy in the simple things.

What would you do if money was not a concern in your life?

Travel the world. I want to go to Israel with my family. I want to walk where Christ did, and I want my kids too. I want to walk on the Great Wall of China, to see the Pyramids, to look at the Mona Lisa, to climb the steps of the Mayan Temples. There are far to many things I want to see and do to fit in a single lifetime.

What one thing do you dream about doing that you’ve never told anyone?

I am pretty sure anyone who knows me knows my dreams. I am a pretty open book.

What do you fantasize about doing while driving your car or taking a shower?

I don't fantasize as much as analyze. I like to look at the story of my life and see how far I've come. I like to look at all that I have overcome and think of how hard it was to get here.

Who do you know that’s doing something you’d like to do?

No one really.

How could you make the world a better place for yourself and others?

I think that my biggest contribution to the world would be to raise happy, confident, smart, selfless, open-minded children.

Who do you think you are? Have you labeled yourself a mother, student, caregiver? What are the other parts of you?

That is a hard question because there are so many parts to it! I am a mother, a wife, a friend, a sister, a daughter... But deep down, I am a deeply complex individual. I am silly little girl on the inside, who likes to giggle and have fun and try new things and see new places. I like to read, and talk to my friends, and play with my kids. I love to spend time alone with my husband being really goofy, and having deep conversations about our goals in life. I sometimes get scared and insecure. And I am sometimes am overly confident! I make mistakes, and I find it very hard to admit that! I cry over people who I have lost (to death and to life), and I laugh at the memories we had. I am someone who is not afraid to love with all that I have, or to let go when it is time. How do you put a label on all of that?

What did you love when you were a child?

I loved being outside. I loved being with my friends. I loved being involved in everything.

What’s stopping you from moving forward with exploring your passion?

I want to finish up my degree and start working. I can't right now, because Brian and I have decided that I should be at home until our kids are older. That is most important right now. But that time will come...

What drives you, and what gives you satisfaction?

In a single word: family.

When you were young, what did you know you would do when you grew up?

I think that I always knew that I would get married and have children. Although I always denied it. I have always known that I would be a teacher. It hasn't happend yet, but it will.

How would you like the world to be?

Full of open minded, selfless individuals. Full of people who aren't afraid to let other people be different.

What would you regret not having done if your life was ending?

I would really regret not letting go of the guilt that I carried for so many years. I would regret not being spontaneous and open to new things. And I would REALLY regret not having my family!

Joe Jonas and Backwards Day

Everyday, while taking the girl to school we listen to the radio - 94.1 the mix. Yesterday, while we were listening, they announced that they would be interviewing Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers on air the following day. Alysa about passed out. Apparently, she is a huge fan of the Jonas Brothers - according to her, "their biggest fan". And Joe Jonas is her favorite Jonas Brother. She then spent the rest of the ride to school, and the whole evening after school begging me to take her to the radio station in the morning so that maybe we could see Joe Jonas. After telling her, "No! You have school!" about ten million times, I finally said, "No, because my kids are going to grow up to be stalkers!" That effectively changed the conversation for about 2 seconds so I could explain what a stalker was. I knew she liked them, but jeez...

Joe Jonas - since most of us don't know (at least I didn't)

This morning she remembered it was "backwards day" at school and decided that it was okay that I refused to take her to the radio station because she didn't want to miss backward day. Apparently, the Jonas Brothers biggest fan would rather wear her clothes backwards than actually meet them. Not that I am complaining... because I am no longer the world's meanest mom.

No, I wan't channeling my inner 80's spirit when I did their hair. It is a backwards French Braid.

Oh and yes they do have backpacks. Really nice ones. But they choose to use these ratty old bags instead. Kids!?!

Our House

I have decided that since I don't journal, my blog is going to be it. My goal is to get it printed off and bound once a year. Anyway - I am going to post some pics of our house - they probably won't be of much interest to anyone else, but someday, my kids, Brian and I will appreciate them! We love our house, we are only renting it for now, though. We have the option to buy it, and we probably will - but Brian and I also get restless really fast, so who knows, maybe we will be living in an entirely different city in the future!

Maybe I will take some pictures of the upstairs too - if I can ever find a day that the kids' rooms are clean!!!

Valentines Day / Presidents Day weekend

Brian's parents, Reed and Josie, came to visit us in Las Vegas over the weekend. They picked up Austin from his mom's house and brought him with. We had alot of fun visiting with them. We are both very lucky to have such great families. Saturday, we went to the Bass Pro Shop at the Silverton Casino. The kids had fun looking at the animals and the fish tanks. They have a rock climbing wall in the store too, that the kids were dying to try. Unfortunately, you have to be 75 pounds to climb, so Austin as the only one who was able to do it. They started him off on the easy course - he climbed it in less than a minute. A couple of the employee's that were around had seen him, and sneaked over to watch as he was being geared up for the intermediate course. He climbed that one just as fast. By this time he had drawn a crowd and people were saying that he looked just like "spiderman" climbing up that wall. Then he went to the hard course. This one was a little tricky, because of the way it was laid out. It took him a minute or two to figure out where he needed to go, but he made it to the top of that one too! The the employee who helped him, said that she has never seen anyone climb all three courses, and had never seen anyone that fast! I like to rock climb, and so I am excited to have a new rock climbing buddy. I think he will love going out to Red Rock this summer and trying it outdoors. Now I just need to get my brother Craig and his wife Erika out here to go with us!

After the Bass Pro Shop, we went to the Mermaid Cafe. The kids love looking at the fish, sharks and rays. Every hour they have a lady dressed as a Mermaid swim in the tank (she has oxygen hoses) Brylee was completely obsessed with her, and the mermaid was so cute blowing her kisses and making hearts with her hands.

On the way home, we stopped at McDonald's and let the kids eat and play. Afterwards, Josie and I went and got our nails done, and a great little nail place I like just up the road from us. Reed and Josie, then volunteered to watch the kids so that Brian and I could go out to dinner. We went to the new Aliante Casino, just to see what they had. It was pretty crowded due to Valentines day, so we ended up eating at the TGI Friday's (in the casino) because they could get us in the quickest. It was really nice just to be able to go out with just the two of us. We haven't been anywhere without kids for a while!
